Bramble is just another name for briar and/or blackberry and similar bushes. We used to go picking blackberries in summer *all the time* when i was a kid, because that's when they're ripe and holy gods, do they taste good.

You can also pick gooseberries, blueberries, raspberries, dewberries, currants, fox (wild) grapes - lots of things. They're geographical, though - there are not cranberries growing in Arizona, for example. We also had a mulberry tree when i was a kid, and a couple Macintosh apple trees, and persimmons in the fall.

Lots of people who live out in the country/near it go berry picking in the summer/autumn, and there are also lots of 'you pick' little farms where you can get fresh strawberries, apples, stuff like that.
