(I apologize if this seems more suited to the Anon meme, but, well, anon, and I feel like getting notified of responses)

So for the umpteenth time, i've seen "I'm annoyed that people want to see this movie just because this actor/actress is in it" - is this a real concern people have? As long as they are not rude in the stadium or theater, is it really that big a problem?

I don't get why it'd annoy anyone that people do it - I mean, expensive big name actors are cast in films for this exact purpose.

I honestly don't share the sentiment of actor fandom, though. There are actors I like, and some are fun to watch. But it kind of throws me out of a movie to see the same face that I associate with other roles. I start thinking of person as the actor rather than the character. Generally speaking, I'd just as soon watch actors who I've never seen in anything before.

Plus, I don't see how watching an actor you like could significantly impact your enjoyment of the film, but I guess that's true for some people.

Is your icon a digimon?

The best Digimon!

I was only vaguely into digimon as I kid. Like we watched it but not super closely. I remember the movie. Which one is that? I know the dinosaur one.

My icon has Gatomon. I only watched season 1 and 2 as a kid, but she was featured in both of those seasons. :D

This one was my fav.

I feel like I played a digimon game...

Yeah, Garurumon! I loved all the season 1 Digimon, though next to Gatomon, Gomamon was my fave hands down. He was the seal with the red mohawk lol

I know there were a couple of Digimon games, though I never played them. I had the little Digivice game, which was like a Tamagotchi (however you spell that?).

I can see when that is ALL the person wants to talk about - how great the actor - how much better the movie/show would be if it was all that one actor all the time...

Those are probably the same people that are all, "Well, I knew about _______ before it was popular."

(Anonymous) 2014-07-13 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't those people realize that big-name actors get butts in seats? I have seen many movies on the basis of the cast alone. This is a crime now?

Hell, put a bunch of no-names in the places of Robert Duvall, RDJ, and David Krumholtz in "The Judge," and there would be crickets. As it sits, it'll probably do pretty well.

Lmao, what...

That's how Hollywood works! (If you're popular of course you're going to be given better and/or more roles. And if you like a certain actress or actor why wouldn't that sway you decision to see a film?)

Now I get not being the least bit interested in certain movies despite the actors involved, but if a movie seems only so-so and I'm on the fence about it, I am way more likely to see it if someone I like is involved. It's that way with most people, I think.

Huh, I see a lot of "I'll go see X movie because Y actor/actress is in it" but never people complaining about that. I can see how it would be annoying, because personally I'm baffled by people who will see movies solely for the lead actor/actress, but at long as they're enjoying themselves and not insisting other people need to go for their personal reasons, I don't see a need to complain.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-14 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Same. It's a thing that annoys me on a "Why would anyone think that, how can you think that whose name is on the poster is the most important thing about a movie, stop liking things for different reasons than me" level, but it's really not worth complaining about.
