If people find it difficult to write "good job" or see it as unnecessary, why do you think they'd be up to writing paragaraphs-long constructive criticism?

Also, tbh, the issue of criticism is a different one from feedback. Proper criticism takes a lot more investment by the reader (I know, I beta), and is a way bigger time investment. It's a different type of reading. Demanding that people not only enjoy your work but also invest time and effort into helping you improve as a writer is a bit much, don't you think?

The thread is about people expressing/not expressing enjoyment of a fic. Critique is another kettle of fish.

diff annon.

TBH, because if all I have to say is "good job" then that's what the kudos or like button is for.

I freak out trying to write to people one on one. I don't really do it unless I have something that I can convince myself is original and worth saying.
