The movie itself wasn't half bad (I'd say on par with Dark of the Moon), and probably has some of the better acting of the series thus far. I think it's still worth seeing, just keep in mind this is much more a reboot than a sequel.

I actually found it very interesting that Optimus is very much done with this Earth nonsense. It made a lot of sense to me--his race has been through a very long, terrible war, they've lost their planet, and now they are being systematically exterminated by a race they fought to save. I can totally accept that even Optimus would be broken by that, given long enough.
He does still save the day though, because he is Optimus and even at his worse, there's still a part of him that wants to hope :p.

And see, I really like the movie aesthetics, especially as they were in the first movie. The progressive humanization of the designs makes me side-eye the art team though. I've got other series to go to if I want more human-like Cybertronians!

I consider AoE and DotM both better than RotF but not as good as the first movie. Thus, AoE is on par with DotM.

If you want to split hairs, I'd say DotM is slightly better only because I think they utilized the 3D effects better than AoE did. And AoE did not have enough Dinobots by a long shot.

What I'm saying is they are both terrible, terrible movies. Just completely awful. Now I have not seen AOE because for me the movies seem to keep steadily declining in quality, which at this point I am astonished is even possible, and everything I have heard about it disgusts me. But DOTM I have seen, I thought it was certifiably horrible in every way and being compared to it is no compliment.

So. Good, or on par with DOTM? You have to pick one.

I think we'll have to say this is difference of taste. No, none of them are 'great' movies in any sense. But because they were fun and I enjoyed them for that, they are at least 'good' in my opinion.
