Wonder Trade, Amie, and customisation are all new to gen 6 :) The GTS was introduced in... 5, I think? It might have been in 4, but was definitely in 5 (and the new GTS is a definite improvement on the gen 5 one!). Also, agreed on never playing with the 3D set on, but I have eye issues so I can't use it anyway, and I love the look of the game. Kalos FEELS like a place.

I still think Black and White had the best plot, but I looove XY's. And the characters. And a certain pairing from those characters. *looks askance at two oneshots and one-and-a-half novel-length fics*

GTS was in Gen 4!

I don't play with 3D on because it eats up battery at lightning speed and it's not particularly good besides.

Ooh, okay. When I had gen 4, I didn't have the right kind of wifi, so I missed that whole thing, heh.

I've heard Black and White are good, but I have to admit, I'm not sure I could go "backwards" to play one with fewer features. I mean, Red/Blue have a special place in my heart and all, so I'd play them. But I can't really think of Pokemon as a story based game - and maybe in previous games it was, idk. But with other series, you play for the story, but Pokemon, I play for the, well, Pokemon. It'd be weird to backtrack, unless there was a rare Pokemon that I really wanted or something.

But hey, I did like the story of XY! I liked my rival a lot, and Team Flare (?) was hilariously great. But mostly I just adored the atmosphere of the games, if that makes sense. The scenery, the music, the objectives. Loved it all so much.

Yeah, totally understood - I haven't played the older games because I can't get my head around the mechanics. (Which is partially why I'm so excited for ORAS, I get to experience Hoenn for the first time!) In fairness, there are a HUGE amount of Pokemon in BW - the REGIONAL dex has 300 Pokemon - and BW has over 150 native Unovan Pokemon just on its own, many of which aren't available in Kalos.

And yeah, that's fair :) Kalos was just gorgeous, and the music was grand. (I really liked the kind of... northeastern corner? The music for Laverre, Dendemille, and Anistar, and the route music used for 15-17.)

off the top of my head I really didn't ship anyone in XY, except maybe a very casual Calem/Serena

Sycamore/Lysandre, heh. The Couriway scene kind of made me go... "Oh huh, I think I ship it..." and now it's my biggest ship aside from my Forever OTP in Zelda fandom. Whoops.

I also think Serena/Shauna is completely adorable - the fireworks scene! (I was playing as Serena in my first playthrough, so that's my canon version - X version, playing as Serena with dark skin and short black hair with bangs, Fennekin as starter.)

I absolutely got vibes of one-sided Sycamore/Lysandre - I actually think it was intentional (how could it not be?) - but I don't think Lysandre reciprocated if only because he was too busy obsessing over his ~ideal world~. I can absolutely see why people ship it, though.

I also think one-sided Shauna/Serena (or Shauna/Calem, either one; I've played through as both) is a thing, but that scene was so cheesy and kinda felt forced. It read as a kid's crush on that "wow! sooo cooool" older kid born of admiration and awe. (Also, I find Shauna fairly annoying, which probably causes me to lose interest in it.)

I sort of ship Tierno and Trevor in the background, but I'm not really invested in it. (Again, possibly also because I find both of them annoying, if not quite so much so as Shauna.) And I don't usually ship player/rival but I think Calem/Serena is cute. Not too invested in that either though.

Oh yeah, I freely admit that it's not as canon-supported from Lysandre's side, but... yeah, definitely very subtexty from Sycamore's side. Or at least that he had SOME sort of feelings for him, if not necessarily romantic, since I'm not sure GameFreak would go there, unfortunately! Still, that's what fanfiction is for :)

It WAS cheesy, but kind of cute, heh. And I thought Shauna was adorable, so that may be a factor in it? She's actually one of my favourite characters in the game! (Just behind Sycamore, and roughly equalish with Lysandre.) It is more puppy-love-ish, though, yeah.

And heh, the Zelda pairing is Link/Sheik (as a separate character). I know that's not the commonly accepted interpretation, but I can see grounds for Sheik being a separate individual consciousness, if nothing else. Also, I've been shipping it for over half my life now!

...huh, I never thought of Link/Sheik, like, at all! That's interesting! Got any cool art to share?

(I do soooort of, like, really casually, ship Link/Tetra in Windwaker, though I still don't ship Link/Zelda, so I do get the alter ego thing)

I have... a lot, heh. Wouldn't have the links, though - most of it is from dA.

(And that's fair enough! The dynamics are totally different.)
