Re: Travel advice!

Ah! This is a good topic to bring up - getting around San Francisco.

Don't drive unless you really have to. Traffic is often annoying and parking is usually awful. And it's small enough that you usually don't have to. Taxis are useful if you can afford them, though - you have the option of using taxis or using Uber and Lift (sp? they might spell it Lyft) which are ubiquitous and maybe cheaper.

Biking is alright if you like biking, except that it's hilly and people can be kinda aggressive. There's a bike rental program that may be interesting and pleasant. But IMO the best way to get around as a tourist is to use the public transit system - it's decent (although not perfect) and you don't have to worry about car rental, parking, etc. You can buy one or three day passes, I believe, which is probably the most economical thing to do if you're going to be riding it a lot. Especially if you want to take the cable cars. Which you should! They're honestly really fun to ride, and they're actually extremely practical for getting around the northeast part of the city. But they cost 5 dollars to ride them if you don't have a MUNI pass.

OP

Thank you for this advice! I won't have access to a car so I was thinking I'd do public transport, but I hadn't investigated it. I am sure I will save a lot of money by getting the 3 day MUNI pass!
