Well, to play devil's advocate, the site did specify the fandom/geeky side of tumblr (with a focus on superwholock?). So there's that.

But it's still so broad and there are already so many cons out there that cover "geeky" who have many attendees who use, guess what? Tumblr.

I do feel a little bad for the younger members of fandom because they are so young, but in a way I do think it's a good lesson. I've seen so many posts talking about the world being "ageist" and how tumblr knows the real way things work, so hopefully this will leave some sort of impression on them. IDK.

On the one hand I'm like "ouch! $65!" because that is a fortune at that age. And on the other, I'm just like "good. now you'll learn to do research before you hand your money over."

DA

Yeah, I'll admit I horrible, jaded part of me is hoping that this might shake the younger ones into realizing that they don't know everything [or, at least, that maybe someone who doesn't agree isn't completely wrong and evil]. Even if I don't think it actually will.

Also, that's $65 *and* the price of room, and possibly transportation there. I mean, I get that their parents probably paid for that - but I suspect that most of them had parents that paid for the entrance fee as well.

That's the other thing. To this date I have never paid anymore than the ticket fare + carpool/city bus costs. I have never stayed in a hotel. Not now and definitely not back in high school. I think my parents would have gone "haha no" if I'd asked.

So who are these children? Who are their parents?

Truth is, it's not unheard of for this to happen. I actually saw it happen plenty with kids at anime cons... But what's confusing me is why it sounds like their parents didn't come along (at least stay in the same hotel/near by). :/
