I also noticed that cometimes they showed the characters from behind when they were about to do an "ugly" face.

I think you're right about everyone staying pretty at all times..

(Anonymous) 2014-07-14 02:50 am (UTC)(link)And while I really like Naoko's art in the manga, it really doesn't translate well onto the screen. They should have taken a few more liberties with adapting the character designs. Then we would have this problem of limited expressions.
