Everybody must stay pretty at all times.

I also noticed that cometimes they showed the characters from behind when they were about to do an "ugly" face.

And in the gif with Haruna, she doesn't even look mad or upset. She's just got this kinda blank look.

It is just so strange. I'm reading the manga right now and there's just so much emotion and expression, but I didn't get that in Crystal's first episode.

I think you're right about everyone staying pretty at all times..

I don't know why people use the manga to defend how blank their expressions are. The first chapter alone is full of ridiculous faces.

I'm not sure why either.

And while I really like Naoko's art in the manga, it really doesn't translate well onto the screen. They should have taken a few more liberties with adapting the character designs. Then we would have this problem of limited expressions.
