I don't deny that Sam would have medical training, but Bruce Banner is a medical doctor, so he definitely has had "serious medical training". (At least in the comics he is an MD and it is implied in The Avengers with the work he was doing when Natasha went to bring him in.)

I was under the impression that he only had a doctorate in Physics, but I could be wrong! I know he's not licensed for psychiatry since he told Tony that in the sting for IM3, so the original person I was replying to is still correct in this respect.

Also, during a battle, it's somewhat more likely that the Hulk would be present rather than Bruce, and I kind of doubt the Hulk would be making use of that medical degree :D Although that would be hilarious.
