Re: Ding Dong the Witch is Gone

I worked at an office a while back with the owner of the business, several support staff, and two secretaries. One of the two secretaries slowly revealed herself to be a very petty, vindictive person, and I have a lot of stories about her that I'm still mulling over. However, the worst one was one day we had an Asian customer come in. This woman had an accent, but nothing so pronounced that we couldn't understand her; she was fairly nice and everything went smoothly as she filled out our paperwork. She'd hardly left, though, when my co-worker started speaking "Chinese" (the kind with nonsense syllables) and pulled her eyes into slants, laughing the entire time. I was appalled and said something like, "Whoa, that's pretty racist." Co-worker's response to me: "I'm Hispanic, so I can't be racist. It's OK, so I can say whatever I want." I tried to muster some kind of a rebuttal to that, but then the phone rang, and by the time I'd come up with a snappy retort, everyone else had already moved on.

Damn, I am so glad to be out of that job!

I don't blame you, that is really toxic. But LOL at the idea that Hispanic people can't be racist. Ever watch any of those telenovelas? The bad guys and comically inept people always have dark skin.

The witch once told a Hispanic guy that we were closed and he would have to pay his sign permit fee tomorrow. He needed that sign up that day, because tomorrow was his grand opening. I told him to put up the sign, and pay tomorrow. Which he did. Thing is, we were five minutes until closing. It would have taken her two minutes to process his fee. Shit was preposterous.

I also had a Hispanic coworker who said that to me, when I told her it was racist to say she "hated Asians"

wonder if it's the same person
