I've wanted the Dethklok gear on the back of my neck for years, but A) I hate pain B) I couldn't see it. C) It's not my own art and D) I swore I would never get a fandom tattoo.

What if I grow out of the fandom? What if the show jumps the shark and I just can't enjoy it anymore? Most of all, what if the creator does or says something unforgivably horrible? Then I'm stuck with that on my skin "forever".

ETA: Many of my friends have fandom ink. One has the Akira pill on him, another has the Decepticons logo before Bay made the movies, Cactaur, and a Matrix jack on the back of his skull. Both of them love their ink and regret nothing.

This is exactly why I've held back from getting a tattoo even though there are a bunch of fandom-related things that I think would make really awesome tattoos.

I'd much rather show my love for my fandoms in non-permanent ways that I can stop wearing or throw out if I decide I don't like the fandom anymore.
