Re: Typical fic/art pet peeves that worked

I couldn't find it now, I don't think, but I once found a HP fic where Harry had a cousin who turned out to have special mind-controlling abilities which meant she was being hunted by Voldemort. She could have been a Mary Sue, but between the backstory explaining how she came to be born, and her being shown to be a muggle who really doesn't understand what is happening around her and things happen to save her more or less by luck, she managed not to fall into the MS side.

The other that I can't help think of was Mirror of Maybe, where Harry got pulled into a magic mirror, lived practically a whole life of what could happen in his future before being spat out again. He then uses the knowledge of that life to assume a new identity so he can try prevent the worst of the war he lived through. Harry ends up rather Stu-ish because of his knowledge and training, but I still liked the story. The big problem I think is that it's one of those big fandom epics that never got finished.

Ahh, yeah, a lot of really good fics never got finished, or they took so long to get finished I lost interest, and was like "wait, that fic's still being updated?" when they were finally completed five years later. I understood why, I had a lot of unfinished WIPs too, but it wasn't so easy to follow them when that happened.

Both fics sound really interesting! :)
