This was a great episode. :) I really wish some of the Trek stuff was real, though - like those Dixon Hill books Picard is always reading.

Dixon Hill was roughly based on Philip Marlowe and Sam Spade.

Marlowe books by Raymond Chandler:
The Big Sleep (1939)
Farewell, My Lovely (1940)
The High Window (1942)
The Lady in the Lake (1943)
The Little Sister (1949)
The Simple Art of Murder (1950) (short story collection)
The Long Goodbye (1953)
Playback (1958)

Sam Spade books Dashiell Hammett:
The Maltese Falcon (1930)
A Man Called Spade and Other Stories

Chandler's Marlowe was heavily influenced by Spade, as were other fictional detectives.

You could give CL Moore a try - wasn't Kay supposed to have been based on her, at least in part?

Also, great secret, well done. Lot of good DS9 secrets lately really.

Nana Visitor rocked in DS9. I really liked her as Kira.

Me too. She's my favorite Trek character, period.

I had to look up who this was because wow! She looks so much like Didi Conn did when she was younger!

I saw this episode a long time ago, when I was a little kid and I could *not* understand why they were being told that they'd have to do this or that to avoid having their "real" picture presented to the public. My parents' explanation and the look on Sisko's face have never left me.

Most of the writers were based on real people - as someone says above, Kira's character is based on CL Moore, as well as DC Fontana.
