I confess, when I was a teenager I had a crush on Trent Reznor. He wasn't even my type too.

He's gotten really ugly, in the second and third picture. Especially the second, though the facial hair in the third is pretty awful.

You shut your trap!

Just so long as you don't dwell on those daydreams so much that you forget to live...

That's....pretty elaborate. While I think the fantasies themselves are absolutely harmless (and I admit to doing it as well), if it's something you obsess about so much, I do wonder if it could be a sigh of you missing out on something in real life?

What I mean: if it's a fantasy, and JUST a fantasy - whatever floats your boat.

But, if it's a) potentially damaging your relationship and b) giving you something your relationship is not giving you, you might want to take a closer look at what's going on in your marriage. I'm not a shrink, but it could be a sign of some emotional needs not being met in your marriage, in which case it might be a good idea to address that before it gets worse. It seems like your husband already feels like something is up.

Eh, I dunno. Have you ever been in a longterm relationship and still had fantasies about people other than your partner? I'm guessing most people do. I certainly do, and while my relationship isn't perfect, it's pretty damn solid. People often comment on how loving and affectionate we are even though we've been together over a decade. When I'm bored, I tell myself very detailed adventure stories where I'm a swashbuckling lady pirate who's the terror of the high seas, but in real life I get horribly seasick in a rowboat and would never dream of going anyplace that doesn't have hot and cold running water and a wifi connection.

Sometimes fantasies are just fun.

Yes, I absolutely have. And I get how after several years it's no longer as exciting as before and all that. And it COULD totally be innocent, it's just that a few things in the secret made me raise an eyebrow. First, that fact that she's having these fantasies actively while she's with her husband, up to the point he's noticed she's mentally absent from him. Second the elaborateness of it, combined with it being a daily thing. Again, it could be completely innocent, but she could also be recreating things she wants in her marriage but isn't getting.

I enjoy swashbuckling pirate lady adventures myself. I particularly enjoy the ones that feature Jack Sparrow.

I always get Trent Reznor and Johnny Reznick confused. I have nothing else to add, mainly because this secret is hard to read.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Mr. Reznor was pretty hot back in the day so I don't blame you. I have a love story fantasy going on in my head as well that I constantly redo over and over again. Like you I know it's not real and just fun/silly fantasy so no harm done.

I find it a little troubling that you're married and indulging in this level of daydreaming about someone else. I mean, we all have celebrity crushes, married or not, but this sounds like it goes beyond crush into obsession.

I do the same thing all the time but with different people/characters

(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
*shrug* I do this all the time and I'm happy in a longterm relationship. It can be troubling... or maybe it's not, you have to go on a case by case basis.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with that, as long as you realize it's fantasy and it isn't affecting your actual life. I've often made up fairly elaborate stories in my head like that, to indulge in when I'm walking around or trying to fall asleep or whatever. Varying celebrities/fictional characters, though.
