oh wow, didn't know that - I think all the baby showers I've ever been to have been by family members. (granted, these are usually MY family members, haha)

Yeah, I know. It's one of those etiquette rules most people either don't know about, or don't bother following. I don't think it's a huge deal, myself. Another one is including registry cards or information with the invitation. Technically, it's a no-no, because it looks like you're being greedy about gifts. You're supposed to tell people about the registry only if they ask.
