Re: Job Thread

Kind of hating my job. My supervisor has been rubbing me, and everyone else, the wrong way for months. He's new to our line of work (I think he's been with the company for about 7 or 8 months) and he's always trying to micromanage us.

But things escalated into something entirely different today for me with him. So these past two weeks, he's been kind of weirdly fascinated with me having makeup on. I've always worn makeup to work, mostly just foundation, blush, luminizer and finishing powder, but every now and then I go out a bit more. Yesterday he saw me and was like, "What's with the lipstick and blush?" and I was like, "Nothing?"

It kind of weirded me out, like maybe it bothered him? So I went with just a little tinted moisturizer today, and I was having a conversation with my lead about our supervisor, and my lead told me that our supervisor actually asked if the reason I "began" wearing makeup these past two weeks because there was this new guy that came to work with us.

At first, I laughed, like, "Holy shit, is this guy serious? I wear makeup everyday." But I sat on it for a few minutes and I just suddenly began filling up with rage. I can wear as little or as much makeup as I damn well fucking please, it's none of his fucking business. ALSO I don't know if my supervisor knows but women don't do things like dress a certain way or put on makeup for the purpose of trying to impress a guy. I don't wear makeup to send people messages on whether or not I am looking for a boyfriend/potential dating partner. I wear makeup because when I put on makeup it makes ME feel good about going out/myself, even if just a little.

I was talking about it to one of my coworkers and she told me that her boyfriend told her that she didn't have to put on makeup or wear cute dresses, because he liked her more/just fine in shorts and tees and her being makeup free, and she told him, "I know, but the thing is I also have to look at myself in the mirror," and I was like, "THANK YOU!"

Another coworker of mine said that our supervisor came up to her and also asked her about why I "began" wearing makeup and if it was over the new guy. For the record, no. I didn't wear more makeup for the new guy. I wore more makeup because NYX had a 40% off sale and I was trying out the new stuff I bought from the sale.

I have already been getting racist and misogynistic vibes from my supervisor and this incident more or less was the boiling point for me with the misogyny angle.

I don't know what solution to suggest, but for a boss/supervisor to be commenting on your physical appearance is inappropriate and weird, period. (Beyond a simple "You look nice today", maybe.)

People who feel entitled to comment on the physical appearance of others is a major pet peeve of mine.

How infuriating. Is your supervisor just gossipy or is he like seriously bothered that you're supposedly wearing makeup only for the new guy (which is the vibe I'm getting)? It really is none of his business and it's skeevy that he's not only grilling you but everybody else about it.

Is there anyone higher up that you can talk to about this? :/ Because no one should be coming between you and your NYX.

Wow, that's really inappropriate. Why does he care so much? Damn. I get creepy vibes from people who ask questions like that.
