And this is the other thing that had me upset: People misunderstanding my reaction as "Oh noes! Life forever is DOOOOOOMED!" When I know that's not the case. I know, caught early enough it can be managed without medicine. And I know my genetics pretty much mean I was destined to get it at some point.

Where I get upset is the idea that, while probably not preventable, it was delayable with better actions on my part. So in that regard, I'm disappointed in myself. And am I upset that I didn't feel like anyone was really helping me get going in the right direction? Yes. But again, the root of it is on me, for not taking my own initiative when it became clear the only preventive advice my doctor was giving was, verbatim, "watch your carbs and exercise."

And that's upsetting. Maybe not for you, and that's great, but for me? It is.

EDIT: To be clear, the upsetting part about "people misunderstand!" is not that "people just don't get it." It's that I apparently can't make myself clear enough.

Okay. I'm glad you're not upset, but to be honest, it seemed like you were taking this very hard. That was the troubling part. I for one just wanted to reassure you that it wasn't as bad as all that.

Basically this. I was even pretty upset about having high blood pressure. So I get it.

I'm not going on just this thread, though. There's been threads in past GCs (before the user got a DW account) that added up over time.

hmm. ok, so maybe they were more upset? I still think they have the right to be upset. But it seems I am missing some context.

Context. Where I feel like I spent a lot of time saying "this is largely my fault." And more context, where I expressed frustration that said doctor's office gave me conflicting information on what type of tests to expect at today's appointment.

Absolutely a person has a right to be upset. But... as quite a few people pointed out, it's not a life-threatening condition, it's very, very manageable, and in some cases, reversible. Even after lots of people chimed in to reassure the user that unlike many conditions where your own body's chemistry fails you, this is one where you can exercise an astonishing amount of control over it. To the point of not needing medication! It's not clear to me that OP did a whole lot of research or they could've found this out on their own, but even if they hadn't, they had a bunch of firsthand experience from people in very similar situations.

If after all that a person still bursts into tears and continues to question whether or not this is something they're stuck with for life and if ONLY their doctors had told them sooner they could've done something about it (with the strong implication that they've missed out on that opportunity had they but realized)... well. Okay then. :(
