Well if it annoys you that it was a surname that became a first name, shall we also get all up in arms because Ashley was originally a man's name and now is used for girls 99% of the time?

Or that I know a bunch of Smiths and not a single one - not a one! - is a blacksmith? Same with a few Kings (none of them I know are royalty), some Banks...

I could go on but I think I've made my point.

Actually Ashley was originally a surname before it was a male name, and honestly if it MUST be used as a first name, I would rather it not be on a girl. It doesn't annoy me as much as Piper and some other surnames as first names (or boy names as girl names), though.

Didn't know it was a surname, but I'm not surprised.

Dear God you're awful. I used to hang out on a name forum full of people like you and they're the reason I left.

Where I live, Ashley has been a girl's name for so long that the one boy I ever knew named "Ashley" always went by Ash and we all assumed that was his full name until someone found out from the camp roster. Then we all thought it was really weird because we had never heard of Ashley being a boy's name. When something is so old that kids don't know about it, it's time to accept that it's not the done thing anymore.
