Required question: which pairing though?

I'm usually a multi-shipper, too. But Mako/Raleigh is my exception to the rule.

I love Mako/Raleigh! I can multiship them, though. I multiship everyone.

RPing can definitely make you more emotionally invested in a pairing. As long as you don't start ship wars or anything.

OT, but now I want pizza.

Oh man, OP, it's not an internet thing. It's just a "this one really resonates" sort of thing.

As long as you keep some perspective and recognize that that uneasy feeling isn't logical, it'll be cool.

Oh man. I'm a multi-shipper for the most part, but there a certainly some pairing I don't like being split up.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you too, OP. I was the happiest multishipper to ever ship in the MCU until "The Winter Soldier." Now seeing Bucky or Steve paired with anyone else makes me irrationally uneasy. :( (Fortunately I have other fandoms where this isn't a problem, but still. Frustratiooooooon.)

This is mostly me. Though I still have a thing for really hot Thor/Steve porn. But only porny fics. Anything lower than an NC-17 and I only want Steve/Bucky.

I think it's okay as long as you don't make it anyone's else problem, i.e. actively hating on those ships.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-18 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I think this is actually typical in fandom. Why do you think there's so many shipping wars?

As someone who only has OTP's, I can totally relate. As long as you don't start up shipping wank, I think it's fine.

So long as you don't attack anyone over what they ship I don't think it's bad to not like, or feel uneasy, towards other ships. You don't have to like everything, and that's okay.

I'm like this with my OTPs. I don't ship very much or often, but when I do, I fall hard and I cannot multi-ship them.

I remember it well: getting deeply invested in my ship (although not to your degree), laughing at tinhats overzealous shippers tinhats who were convinced that a competing ship would be endgame...then half of my OTP was booted from the show. At the time, and however many years later, I thought it served me right for getting so wound up about a pairing.

That sounds like something I would do back in my heckly preteen heydays. I think if you're self-aware, you at least know how not to take yourself seriously about it :)

Now I'm just waiting for that The One ship to ever happen to me to prove me wrong about how I have all the leniency in the world. You never know you are a stan until it's tooooo laaaaaaate D:

(Anonymous) 2014-07-18 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of know how that is. I'm better about it now, but every now and then I get a twinge of RGHRGK if I see people shouting from the rooftops their love for a pairing that contains ½ my OTP. Which is dumb since neither pairing is canon...

(Anonymous) 2014-07-18 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
As people mentioned before, as long as you don't get too carried away, it's good to take a step back for a bit.

I can relate to that. With certain pairings, I can't imagine either character with other people. Once I ship a pairing, I'll stick to that pairing. Nothing or no one gets in the way of their relationship. Although I would see why some people might find that rigid.

Then again, the majority of the my favorite ships are canon and endgame, with very strong bonds.

This is not a strange thing, as many others have commented.

You know, I started shipping a pairing when I first got into my current fandom, but after a particular fic and RP based on it, where one half of that pairing was with someone totally different (without any denigration of the canon relationship with the other person), I can't even really read fics of that first (and admittedly extremely popular "Two Hot Guys" pairing) anymore, because the RP pairing has taken over my mindset.

But like other have said, as long as you don't go off at people and start a ship war, you're not doing anything wrong by being unsettled by pairings that go against your OTP.
