I totally get this. I ship Kirk and Spock hardcore but I have no problem with people who don't. A lot of them tell me that they DO indeed see where the shippers get their ideas from it just doesn't work for them on a personal level, which is fine. I hate it when my fellow shippers try to the ship down people's throats. At the same time, though, I do appreciate it when people don't accuse shippers of willfully making things up or "twisting" things. We each see what we see and I don't think a lot of people can help that. As long as it's respectful and no one insists they're objectively correct.

+1 Also, I always find it a bit sad that there aren't more people who like BOTH the platonic and romantic interpretations (even if they prefer one interpretation over the other) of certain epic friendships/popular slash couples, such as Kirk and Spock. Like, for me personally, I love Kirk/Spock slash, even though I love Kirk/Spock friendship even more, and the fact that I can see it both ways is one of my favorite things about their relationship. Obviously, most people, including me, have certain fictional friendships where they 100% cannot ship it, but I wish fans didn't tend to break into only shipping/no shipping camps so much.

" As long as it's respectful and no one insists they're objectively correct."

YES. Good words that explain my biggest problem with shipping conflicts. It always seems like people are claiming they're objectively correct. "These people are closer in canon, shipping them with anyone else is wrong, etc etc"
