Hah, I thought the same thing, was similarly disappointed, then un-disappointed when it turned out to be a decent show anyway.

I wonder how many others like us there are out there.

(The Engrish translation doesn't help - Attack "on" Titan makes it sound even more like it's a moon/planet/etc.)

I thought the same thing, OP. My original exposure to the series was through fanart someone I followed posted, so all I saw was guys in military-ish uniforms and the show's name, Attack on Titan. I assumed Titan was meant to be the moon, or possibly a planet, and the show was about aliens attacking it, and the guys in the uniforms were defending Titan from the aliens.

I probably would have watched that, come to think of it. Not so much actual Attack on Titan.

Actual Attack on Titan's not bad, you might want to give it a chance. It goes off the rails pretty quickly, though.

If you can stomach that, you're golden. If not, you might lose interest. I did.

...Also I hate Eren and he never gets more of a personality, unfortunately.

I was really hoping Eren would stay dead when the whole getting eaten thing happened, because I wanted to Mikasa and Armin to develop into the role of main characters. The fact that we didn't get that because of Eren's God Mode will forever annoy me.

The story would be much better if he killed off more important characters. The titans are supposedly such a threat, yet nobody of importance gets killed off.

Like Jean, he had two close calks in about as many chapters and yet he's still alive.

For me it was the sharp juxtaposition of "beautifully-animated badass action scenes in an interesting new world with original monsters" against long, long stretches of... not that.

Haha so did I. I had a lot of misconceptions tbh, but I think that was one of the bigger ones, thinking it was about a space future where people terraformed Titan despite it being populated by giant anatomy models.

That was my assumption too. I thought it was about forced colonization with humans as the invaders, and that it would have a western/cowboy theme. How I got all of this from fanart isn't clear.

The translation is bad. It's not even in plural. But I prefer to call it by its Japanese name anyway even though it's nearly the same in meaning.

Btw oh my god am I excited for the live action movie.
