The idea that Hannibal is better than True Detective... ha! Were there people who seriously think it's on par with The Wire? Amazing.

Anon was talking about quality, not personal opinions, though. Inb4 'quality' doesn't exist, good and bad are subjective and there's nothing objectively wrong with Twilight.

Yep, I assume Hannibal fans will console themselves with similar sentiments. Unfortunately, finding something boring (or exciting) isn't really a reliable indicator of what the Emmys are about: quality acting, writing, etc.

And yet The Big Bang Theory keeps getting nominated so Emmy noms aren't really a good indication of quality acting or writing either, really.

Like, c'mon, even if you don't like Hannibal, you have to admit it's got great cinematography. Moreso than Glee, at least.

I don't have a horse in this race, I'm appreciative (but not exactly fannish) of both Hannibal and True Detective, but honestly, the Emmys have stopped being about quality acting and writing quite a long time ago.

Right?!!! The writing on Hannibal is so-so and the acting is so melodramatic and cheesy. It's not even in the same league as True Detective.

hannibal may be good but it's way too niche to be as popular as true detective or the wire.

I was disappointed in Hannibal Season 2. Enough that I stopped watching. However, I would still put Hannibal's season 1 well above True Detective's Season 1 as far as quality goes. And I know that there are several television critics that agree. (The Wire is better than both.)

I've...never heard of True Detective. Is that something worth watching?

Only for Matthew McConaughey's character. But otherwise, no. I didn't get the hype. It wasn't particularly inventive, but it wasn't bad. I'm not gonna give the second season a go, despite different characters etc.

It was amazing imo. Definitely better than Hannibal, especialy Hannibal's second season because I thought it was very disappointing.

I think you need to give it a try and decide whether to watch it or not, because from what I've seen so far, people disliked it or loved it, there is hardly anything else in between.

Hannibal fan here and... well, I haven't watched True Detective yet, so I can't say whether or not it was better...

but I'm not surprised by the lack of Emmy nominations.

I don't think S2 was up to par with the promise of S1 and for a few episodes there I was seriously considering dropping the show altogether. The finale was good, but... yeah. I won't be buying S2 on DVD unless I can find it cheap somewhere.

And yeah, the fanbase can be annoying. There's no way I'd say this on tumblr, because some of the more enthusiastic fans would take it to mean I hate the show altogether.

I just hope S3 is an improvement. I /know/ this show can do better and I want it to do better.

Given that the Emmys repeatedly make stupid decisions, not nominating Hannibal (as if they ever would) doesn't say a lot about its quality or otherwise.
