Because Yewtree's been pretty prominent in UK press lately. They just got Rolf Harris, and Bill Roache was let off (which I think is gross - dude bragged about having sex with "thousands" of women and was part of a sex cult), and the whole Jimmy Savile thing just keeps getting worse. It's to the point where any older English celebrity could be arrested at any time.

having sex with thousands of women, or even being part of a sex cult, are not, in themselves, a crime

just sayin

Yeah, true. I think he was found disgusting, but not guilty. It was as consensual as sex in the 70s patriarchy could ever possibly be.

Are you implying all sex in the 1970s was not consensual.

Because, um.

Do you remember that essay from either the late '80s or early '90s that argued that all heterosexual sex is rape because Power Dynamics and Penetration? Cuz I think that's where ayrt is gonna go with this.

Ahhhhhh yes. One of those things that makes no sense whatsoever the moment you think about it for more than three seconds. Of course.

....

What?!

No, seriously, WTF!?

Yes, and once a woman has said yes, it's never rape thereafter, because marriage/women already have full equality/she felt she couldn't say no therefore said yes so that's completely consensual.

Funny how rapist apologists always quote that one article to 'prove' that inequality ceases to exist once a man makes a "proposition".

the 70s patriarchy

ROFL the SJWs are just getting more and more insane as each day passes, aren't they? Next they'll be calling Gloria Steinem cishet truscum or whatever the going derogatory epithet is....

The benighted '70s, when abortions were more freely available in the U.S. than they are now and Congress passed the Equal Rights Amendment.

Lol, fuck off with that shit. You can't be serious.

I lived through the 70s, and unless you did too, better shut up. It's more true than you could possibly believe.

I still cannot get over Harris being one. I get Saville, he was always a bit seedy, and Roache, who might be cuddly now but was a right goer when he was younger and not shy about letting people know, but Rolf Harris was everyone's favorite grandparent even when he was in his 20s. Who next, John fucking Craven? Oh god, please no.

Roache said the public should not be judgmental but be "totally forgiving" of people who have committed child sex crimes. He then added: "If you accept that you are pure love, and if you know that you are pure love and therefore live that pure love, these things won't happen to you."

Mr Bray responded: "To some people that sounds perhaps like you're saying victims bring things on themselves - is that what you're saying?"

Roache replied: "No, not quite, but and yet I am, because everything that happens to us has been a result of what we have been in previous lives or whatever."

~~~
From here. So I wasn't at all surprised when he turned out to be scum.
As for Rolf Harris, I was totally shocked. I never got that vibe from him. :(
Wait, wasn't Roache a part of that guru cult styled in the same manner of victim-shaming Eckhart Tolle? I think I remember reading about it years ago, apparently Tolle, the guy Roache was(is?) following, and there's a chick involved doing the same spiel (the three of them all got "ordained" by the same Indian guy--I read a book on him years back), basically go around brainwashing people to think if anything bad happens to them, it's totally their fault, because they ~manifested their destiny~ or some newage garbage like that.
It's a fairly standard money-grab tactic for the crystal-huggers; the guru tells you everything bad that happens is your fault, so ~manifest your destiny~ and you will make good things happen instead! Where it goes pear-shaped is that "good things" just happens to coincidentally coincide with greasing guru's palm with lots and lots of money.....
What's so terrible about having sex with thousands of women or belonging in a sex cult? Sure, it's side-eye worthy, but it's not criminal or unethical.
Chances are he used his fame and money to prey on women. Please don't tell me you're that naive.
Have they gotten Jeremy Clarkson and James May yet?
