Seriously. Or only a few episodes per season.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
... why was the comment I replied to deleted?

Beats me, anyone got a screen grab?

Because I deleted it.

I didn't realize that anyone had to replied to it when I did.

why did you delete it?

I didn't realize that it was Firefly until I read the comments, so I figured "really, more shows should be a season or two" doesn't apply to a show that was cut short.

Firefly wasn't cut short, it got a full midseason-length run of episodes on DVD, and a general release movie. That is more than most one season wonders get.

""really, more shows should be a season or two"

I'm not familiar with Firefly, but this is something I really, really believe in. It would solve all kinds of problems. TV series that last for eight, ten, twelve years is obscene. I'd prefer quality, not quantity. The entire concept of "jumping the shark" might go away, if TV shows lasted for no more than two or three seasons, max.

I think the limit is around five seasons. Any more and it just gets to be too hard to really get started and keep going without it feeling like a monumental task.

Star Trek: DS9 at seven seasons probably pushed it a bit, but the Dominion arc really helped, I thought, since it let the show explore a lot of things that were very prescient for the 1990s - the fear factor of war allowing domestic opportunistic officials to consolidate their power at the expense of civil rights, the changing fortunes of nations who ally themselves with one side or another in wartime, even the "dirty little secrets" of provocations designed to get a wanted ally to come in on one side or the other when they've been stubbornly neutral so far.

Still, for something like Leverage which didn't have as much of an "arc", five was a good place to stop.

I like the 10-13 episode seasons a lot of shows are doing now. The storytelling is often much more cohesive without the filler eps. I love Sleepy Hollow, for example, but I was not pleased to hear it will be getting 15-18 eps next season.

This is honestly the reason I've stopped watching American TV shows. They just drag on for too long.

"Because I deleted it."

Sorry I asked. Geeze.

Wow, you are awful sensitive. Sorry they answered your question?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I misread it? I read it as sarcasm...

(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure they were saying "I deleted it" as opposed to "case deleted it because it was trolling"

(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh... if that's the case, I apologize. I read it as "because I did, why bother asking?'

Yep, this is what I was going for.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Like I said, I really am sorry. I totally read it as "because I read it, stfu". :/

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
... DELETED it. Damn it.

Don't sweat it. It's easy to mistake stuff online for sarcasm and I could have been clearer about it.
