(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)Either way, Muslims (like LGBTs/women/everyone else) aren't capable of anything that any other human is incapable of. Therefore, they're just like everyone else... and not worthy of your your inane question.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)The mutants with the helpful/peaceful abilities aren't shown in the series as a general rule. The mutant with the poly-lingual mutation got written out. So did the one with the numbers ability.
If the violent/weaponized/uncontrollable mutations are the ones we're shown most often, then it's not a stretch to assume that those make up the bulk of the abilities that sprout up, especially since the series goes to extreme lengths to keep emphasizing how RARE mutants are and how there aren't very many of them. (And, apparently, we're expected to believe that it's an international thing, despite most of the shown mutants living in the U.S. It's enough to make you wonder if there's something in the water or a mutant-magnet in Xavier's mansion.)

(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)It also makes sense that the x-men would reach out more to the mutants with the dangerous abilities so they could help them control it.
also, the "mutant with the poly-lingual mutation" is currently a member of x-factor, so I don't know where you're getting that he was written out.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)You can make your assumptions about why they show what they show. But I can draw my own conclusions from what they show - and I'm firmly of the "if it ain't shown, it doesn't exist."
And for what it's worth, I'd read about the sweaty mutant. It's got the potential to be interesting in a way that watching Xavier simply isn't to me.
that doesn't mean they represent the majority of mutants.
Again, if it isn't in the text, I'm not going to give them the benefit of head canon. And no, your head canon doesn't count as canon.
what about the sixteen million mutants who lived on Genosha?
I thought there were a couple of throwaways about them going out to round them up from other places. 16 mil in a population of billions isn't much.
It also makes sense that the x-men would reach out more to the mutants with the dangerous abilities so they could help them control it.
So they could control them, I think. Because when you've got a private army, you need private soldiers.
also, the "mutant with the poly-lingual mutation" is currently a member of x-factor, so I don't know where you're getting that he was written out.
They finally remembered him? Good on them, then. I'd had no idea that he'd reappeared... or would, to be honest.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)Or maybe you could try reading the "Muties" series to see what the average mutant who doesn't join the X-Men is like.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)Humans are right to be wary of mutants in the X-Men universe. Humans do not have those same security issues with actual women/minorities. IRL, minorities/women are just like everyone else. The metaphor is broken.
