Gotta say, I enjoyed the hell out of it.

The Good:

I'm glad they went with having Ami appear right away. AND SHE WAS SO ADORABLE in her baggy sweat-shirt uniform and her soft voice. I liked that she actually got brainwashed in this version, because then she got to break the brainwashing to save Usagi and aaaaaah! That was so good. I even like her henshin (still getting used to Usagi's, eh)!

The Rei teaser was awesome, too, always happy to see Mars.

The faces/overall animation also seemed a lot better this episode. I even saw some SD faces on Usagi, very pleased about it.

Jadeite is even more useless than ever before, hahahaha. He was just like, whatever, youma, you figure out how to do this, I don't have time to come up with a plan. Really hoping Rei kills him next time.

I like Luna's secret base, too, though I miss the ridiculous passwords Artemis trolled her with in the original.

The Bad:

??????????????????? I have to wait two weeks, I guess. The animation is still stiff, but I'm remaining hopeful it'll improve.

And Luna's face. Not digging Luna's face AT ALL, even if I do appreciate that it was still love at first sight between Luna and Ami. Just let her be Ami's cat, Usagi. Everyone will be happier.

WHAT SAY YOU, FS?

I need to preface this with - before two weeks ago, i've never seen a full SM episode in my life.

So I always thought Ami was bland,shy, and smart and that's it.

I'm really happy that my initial thoughts were nearly wrong. She's willing to deal with super hyper Usagi and not think of her as a burden. & SHE'S REALLY CUTE.

Oh shit, no, Ami is like 100% heartbreaking 100% of the time, I swear. Half the time she thinks she's a burden because she has no idea how to friend. OH, AMI.

I liked it a lot too! I'm glad they're introducing the characters pretty quickly in this anime (I think the manga did as well). In the first one it was like 10 episodes before we saw Rei. I really liked Ami's transformation sequence

Yeah, the manga did and so did PGSM. I could not wait ten episodes to see Rei again. Could not do it, gimme my flame-slinger.

Mercury is so perfect, I already love this version of her!

She was amazing! I love the glasses and how the oversize sweater makes her look smaller and her little flashback when she first touched Usagi. I like that it looks like the girls are going to be getting some of their memories from the Silver Mil. this time around, too.

I liked this episode much more than the first one. But maybe it's because I'm biased towards Mercury, ahaha. Her henshin was much better than Usagi's I think, although the CG still looks kind of wonky.

I'm looking forward to seeing Rei/Mars appear, though!

Yeah, I think it's because it didn't dwell so much on their weird arms and legs. That's the weakest part of Usagi's henshin for me.

That cat looks like a fat human baby with a bob-head :/ I never complained about the human designs, but that cat is so off-putting.

is the animation really as bad as people are saying?

No, it isn't. It's no worse than the first season of the original series. There are parts of it that are a little rough, but a lot of it is beautifully done. Yeah, there are style issues that I'd do differently (I'm not a fan of their spider limbs) but I actually got a lot more used to it just between episodes 1 and 2.

It's pretty damn stiff and the low budget definitely shows.

I get you. I'm mostly waiting for the Outer senshi to show up, partucular Haruka, and the Dead Moon Circus. It is going to be a long wait til they show up, unfortunately. :/

yeah I want to see them in the new dub too, I'm really excited that they actually said they were getting rid of cousins

also the Dead Moon Circus were my FAVORITE villains omg

I'm not that excited for the new dub myself. From what I've heard of it, I think I will stick to the sub. Delicious Megumi Ogata as Haruka. Yeeeeeeeeesss. But yes, they're keeping everything intact. No localizations or anything. First BD/Blu-ray set comes out in November iirc. It isn't that expensive either.

Dead Moon Circus were the best! From the Amazon Trio, Quartet and Nehelenia herself, they've always been the best imo. And I've got the hugest crush on Nehelenia.

Yes. Compared to the original show that's over twenty years old. It's not just badly animated but badly directed. Not many shots that aren't straight on eye level as opposed to have the camera move about to affect the mood and carry the story.

I liked this episode a lot better than the first. I agree that it's nice we're just blowing right through the character introductions. I liked Ami's transformation a lot better than Usagi's, especially the part at the beginning with the water. Ami was just super cute in general. (Also...this episode kinda made me ship her and Usagi a little. The blushing. I did not know this was a ship, and yet I kinda ship it.)

Yeah, when Usagi was like 'she's so cute' it was super adorable. And all the blushing! And then they ran off holding hands! AHH! So cute!
