Crowdsourcing a diagnosis (wrist problem)

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-07-20 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
The back of my right wrist (I'm right-handed) often feels like it has a...cold-burning line or nerve, from about the knuckle of my middle ringer to just past my wrist, following the middle metacarpus and ending (or feeling like it's ending) right where my radius and ulna run into the carpal bones. It's at its worst when I wake up in the morning (especially if I slept with my hand in a weird position and regardless of what that position actually was), and when I bend my wrist back. It's not bad enough to interfere with my life, but it does hurt a little and is extremely irritating, but I have no idea what I could be or how to get rid of it.

I thought it might be carpal tunnel, but apparently it's not. All attempts at Googling the answer, using WebMD and Mayo-Clinic style diagnostic tools, etc. are not helping, and I don't have money to go see a doctor about this (especially if it turns out to be a relatively minor problem that can be fixed with just changing how I do something, a banded, etc.). Any ideas on what this might be? (No such thing as TMI for me, ask anything you need to - I really need to figure out what this is before I gets worse).

It sounds like a pinched nerve. I get them frequently, and usually massage and stretching (including your back) work to ease it if I don't have a chiropractic appointment coming up. Maybe check nerve maps online and see if there's one that runs through that area, and where it connects to your spine to target it.

Ironically enough, I've actually been having some stiffness (that sometimes borders on pain if I bend certain ways) in my upper back, lately, but I didn't think they'd be connected.

You might want to consider bracing your wrist while you sleep!

Well whatever it is just spread to my left wrist, so while I might do that, it's going to be a huge pain in the ass. (Especially since I'd rather my family not know about this, so trying to make sure they don't see it will also be a pain in the ass).
