I've never seen K-ON, but I'm curious what you think a female version of Nagisa or Makoto would be like?

I do not know! I haven't watched Free, it doesn't interest me at all, but I know that K-ON's infantile moeblob schtick (and that of other anime like it) is done so as not to threaten the masculinity of the male audience it is aimed at. Free! may have similar characters but I'm betting it's not quite the same, and I wasn't thinking about straight-up genderswapped versions of their specific archetypes.

If one of those dudes is a clumsy, warbling supersized toddler then I probably would not like them in any form, haha.

Nagisa is pretty cutesy and moe, but how is Makoto? Yes, he can be a wimp sometimes, but I'd hardly call him cutesy and moe.
