I'd bite the bullet and just set up the controller. I play PC games on a laptop, and I lack a proper ergonomic-something setup, which means I get the mouse cramps and wasd cramps every now and then. Normally I'll just cut back play time and try not overwork my hands. If I'm being really stubborn I might compromise with a controller depending on the game (cross-platform stuff generally is for me).
