What exactly is happening here?

Their life force is being absorbed by a techno-magical device (it's Dark Crystal by Jim Henson).

For context : the movie is Dark Crystal by Jim Henson.

This is a minor character whose race is being enslaved by the bad guys who are trying to use their lifeforce to sustain themselves.
In this scene, his lifeforce is drained from him via the ray that's pointed at his eyes.

EDIT : and I don't really know how that can be arousing, as if I remember correctly, next he more or less becomes a zombie, unless he prolly dies, but to each their own.

Not OP, but I'm guessing that if he made a lot of noise or otherwise reacted strongly, that was it. I have similar memories (mainly from the old "V" TV series) from before I really knew what what buttons it was pressing

I do, but I thought the vampire appeal was that the bite / penetration analogy, and the sucking, and the mouth to skin intimacy.

This is much less sexy.

But as I said, sometimes we react in ways that don't make sense. Strange buttons.
