It's not even about the principle that fandom should be non-commercial I don't think. There are legit people about there that think all fan artists should have to draw people whatever they want for free. I've been fandom plush makers have people 'demand' free things because it's just 'fandom'. It's about people not respecting the artists time and work.

There is a big difference between a handmade plus made by a fan that took hours of work and a mass produced bootleg plush. Even if you discount the fan artists hours of work, you still can't overlook that the fan art will in no way impact sales. Not to mention fan artists often make things that are not made at all by the IP. If the IP is not selling a plush then no money is being 'stolen'.

I hope my use of the word "principle" didn't make it sound like I thought that was a legit thing. I think some fandom spaces benefit from being non-commercial, I don't at all think fanartists are less deserving of compensation than "regular" artists. I totally agree with you about the diff between bootleg merch and fanart.
And people are extremely dumb, sometimes, wow. That's like 6-year-old levels of logic. "You have something I want. You should give it to me!"

da

It isn't even just a fan artist thing, you'd be amazed by how many people seem to think they have the right to demand that an artist draw something for them, because it's "just a picture." I've seen people make those exact same demands of professional artists who post their work online.
