I agree with you, but way way back in my Buffy days, during the highly dysfunctional Buffy/Spike relationship, I saw many people insisting that Buffy was not abusive. Some of the writers seemed taken aback at the word "abusive"; however, you gender-swap that relationship, and they would never have written it the way they did.

FWIW, it was an obviously unhealthy relationship. But what was really disturbing to me was the number of fans who insisted it was not abuse, because Spike's a vampire, and Buffy was in a bad place mentally. Yikes.

Yeah, that bugged me too. Even Buffy seemed horrified at herself because of some of the things she did to Spike. I remember there was one episode where she beat the shit out of him and was then like "What the hell have I done?" because it was when Spike had the chip (and before Buffy came back from the dead and the chip didn't work on her anymore) and she had basically beaten up someone who couldn't even defend themselves.
