22. Genesis, Angeal, and Lazard make me saddest because they are SO fucking with my OTPs. =( I remember seeing the first CC official art and going "that bastard G needs to gtfo my otp." And then... it was for real. =(

42. Well, because it took a lot of the original game's shades of grey and made them black and white. Because it retconned a lot of stuff for no apparent reason, and did so in a choppy, inelegant manner. And mostly, I think, because it proved to a lot of fans that the magic of the original was just a fluke.

Actually, scratch all that. I won't lie to you - I can't speak for anyone else, but by god, if it had featured Cloud getting molested by ugly dudes and Sephiroth being half-naked in multiple FMVs, I'd probably have liked it. Not as much as the original, sure, but more than the rest of the Compilation.

I stand by my belief that the following would be the best Final Fantasy VII compilation game possible:

-Focus on the awesome characters, aka Cid, Red XIII, Barret, and the Turks.

-As little Cloud, Sephiroth, or Tifa as you can manage.


Basically, just have the entire game be Cid, Red, Barret and the Turks getting wasted at bars and beating shit up. Throw in a plot here and there and then a sequence where Cloud gets raped by bears (the human-body-type or the animal, I'm not picky) in a hot tub?

As long as it looked a lot like the original game as far as the world went and had plenty of cursing and little romance, I would so buy that game in a heartbeat, and with none of the guilt that I feel about craving CC.

I dreaded and despised the new characters when they first showed up in the promotional materials, precisely for the same reasons. Then I realised that, well, the Angeal thing stops being an issue pretty quickly, so I got over that with him. Lazard I can ignore most of the time; I just don't fucking understand why the hell people are so nuts over the guy.

But let's not even get STARTED on Gackt Genesis. The more I played of the game, the more I just wanted to strangle him, ESPECIALLY for fucking up Nibelheim. I mean, they went and fixed the thing with Cloud throwing Sephiroth into the reactor, but then they throw HIM in to fuck it up even more? WHY, SQUEENIX, CAN YOU NOT STAY TRUE TO YOUR OWN CANON FOR ONCE?

You've spoken the magic words that unleash the tl;dr. xD Gackt's the one that really drives me up the wall. The whole Nibelheim thing really gets me, because I can't understand what greater significance Squeenix thought they'd achieve by putting him in there. Is it supposed to make him the ultimate evil in the world? Is he somehow the one who made Nibelheim a trap? Who's side is he on, and how does he even know these things?

I can't figure it out, and I think what annoys me most is when the people who haven't played the OG play CC, we're going to be flooded with a slew of fics and art featuring the altered version of Nibelheim. I've already had to argue with friends that although Cloud's memories are borked enough that maybe Genesis could have been there, the point is that it wasn't canon in the OG because he didn't exist in the OG.

Maybe it would kill them to actually get their own shit right. Like the Wicked Witch of the West and water or something. Nomura and Kitase would melt into little puddles of goo if they were ever forced to follow the OG events accurately.
