Hannibal doesn't murder infants.

He's still a horrible person who murders and eats people.

But he hasn't murdered hundreds of infants.

Kind of? It's like Al Capone and Charles Manson. One guy was a mobster who killed other mobsters, the other had someone's baby cut out of their stomach. Liking one is not the same as liking another.

True, he's a serial killer with standards.

This. Literally just started watching this show. And while Hannibal is an interesting and well-written character, I can't see why anyone would actually sympathize with him or woobify him. And yet they do.

I had similar feelings about Dexter. Don't get me wrong -- dude had one hell of a tragic backstory, and most of the people he brutally and ritualistically murders are mostly evil, but still, stop treating the sociopathic serial killer like a floofy baby bunny, people!

Yup. And frankly, Hannibal is interesting precisely because he's a horrible human being who is really good at pretending not to be and at manipulating everyone around him partly to get what he wants and partly just for the fun of it. But then again, that's exactly how I like my villains, so this show is hitting lots of buttons for me.

Serial killers are not woobies, and they make very interesting villains when written well because they are more realistic than your average, over-the-top villain.

But then again, people turn Ramsay Bolton of all people into a woobie.

I keep finding myself sympathising with Hannibal and having to remind myself he's a cannibalistic serial killer who is a master manipulator.

I'm a bit concerned about myself.

I guess the manipulation is working on you? At least you recognize that he actually isn't sympathetic. But he is a really good actor. He has everyone else fooled, so I guess it makes sense to be able to fool the audience in some moments?

Don't worry, that's the point of the show. As long as you remember again, you're fine.

I've been in the fandom for a while, and the people who woobify him are a very small minority. Most fans agree that he's a horrible person. The only times I sympathize with him is when I have to suffer through people being horrible rude.

This is why I watch the show and stay the hell away from the fandom.
