(Anonymous) 2014-07-22 02:06 am (UTC)(link)And the art is not exactly like the manga, despite what people are saying. There is a side by side comparison going around tumblr and it really shows how different the art direction is. Naoko's style had a lot more charm and was far more expressive then Crystal is.
I really enjoy Crystal story wise, but I am tired of this "nostalgia glasses" argument as a way to dismiss valid concerns. Toei is being extremely cheap with the animation and I've seen far far far far far better animation out of franchises with much less money.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-22 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)I agree that not everyone is arguing over Crystal vs. original anime. And that if you want to nitpick, Crystal has animation flaws. Personally, animation style hasn't played a big role in enjoying shows for me. Nothing I've seen thus far (including Crystal) has been so god awful that I couldn't stand to watch it. Substance before eye candy. And it's really applied to every medium I watch. I'll watch a low budget movie if it's got an interesting premise. I watch B-movies all the time. I'll play an indie game if it's got good gameplay. I don't need realistic AAA graphics. And on the flip side, I will stop watching a gorgeous movie if it's got a weak or nonsensical plot. It's just a matter of personal preference. I may not understand completely why someone would dismiss something like Crystal based solely on it's artwork, but in the end it's their problem. I think Crystal is turning out to be a great show.
