They seemed even happier when they woke up to a dead clan.

I never argued they didn't care about that, you're arguing they didn't care about being mistreated.

I never once said that they didn't care about being mistreated, I explained why they had bigger priorities to think of than a woman (that they were fully capable of tearing apart) throwing a stick, and Demona discarding those priorities entirely to avenge a slight was never about saving her clan from mistreatment, therefore saying "Goliath didn't do anything about the humans mistreating the gargoyles" is a misrepresentation of what Demona did and why she did it, and what Goliath did and why he did it.

So just politely talking to the queen, and asking that since they play a crucial part in protecting the castle could they be treated with a little respect, was out of the question?

You're also forgetting how the captain of the guard was also being mistreated and ostracized for being kind to the gargoyles.

The queen was an asshole, too, who refused to address them as equals, and forcing the issue would have been the perfect excuse to kick the gargoyles out (or attempt to, anyway, and start a slaughter). Which is what Goliath was trying to avoid, because the gargoyles were living in her castle at her sufferance. They didn't actually have a right to be there, and making demands like they did wouldn't have gone well.

I'm not sure what the captain of the guard has to do with it? He was just like Demona.

Why didn't the Gargoyles have a right to be there? They were there first.

"These cliffs were our home ages before they built their stone fortress."

They didn't have the right to live in the castle and make demands while being fed, sheltered, and guarded during the day. They totally had the right to abandon the castle to be sacked and then defend their cliffs from any other humans who came. That's basically what Demona wanted, and it was fair, if short-sighted (way more casualties in a perpetual war with all humans than in compromise with some of them) but what wasn't fair was that instead of getting the clan to agree, she made the decision for them.
