Things you do to cheer yourself up

[personal profile] loracarol 2014-07-22 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a con coming up, and the fabric I needed wasn't in stock, nor was it in stock in any of the stores in an hour radius. So yay for ordering online and hoping that it will show up soon! :D

So, to cheer myself up, I ended up buying one of those peg boards you use to make designs, you know, the ones that you make the patterns, then you iron over the top?

This thing is so much fun! Why didn't I get one of these before? :D

OMG I had one of those as a child and they were fabulous!!! My mom would get so mad because they'd break and we'd have the little pieces EVERYWHERE.

THEY ARE SO MUCH FUN.

But after spilling the beads myself, I can't really blame your mom. |D

Seriously, they're the best!

The worst was after we'd make them and they'd break in our bedroom or the playroom and they'd get squashed in the carpet.

Ah, fun times as a child. Glad you're enjoying it now!

Try new recipes. Because I love that moment, that first bite where I light up and go, "Oh, my God, this is delicious! I made this and this is delicious! Gold star for me!"

Can I ask what your icon is from?

For shopping therapy, I like buying drawing supplies. Having new ink pens or brushes and trying them out on various papers is that for me. Even getting new scalpel blades is good too. It's like a new school supply kind of feel.

There's also the lazy ass options of eating fried food or watching a bunch of shows or whatever, but I'm not counting that.

They're so great, and apparently you can make video game pixel art out of them? ?? O_O

I'm so excited.

Oh, yes. I saw a picture on .... Pinterest? Where someone had made a bunch of Super Mario Bros. pieces, stuck magnets to the back, and put them all on their fridge so it looked like a scene from the game.

Very, very awesome.

I've never heard of those kinds of gadgets--can we get a picture? It sounds cool.

Anyway, to cheer myself up lately, I've been watching lots of Game Grumps (it's my latest addiction because it makes me laugh a lot and I need that XD)

I also knit scarves. I'm hard at work for one for Nursejoy!

Yeah, sure! You start with a plastic pegboard, and arrange beads on top into whatever pattern you want. (I have a basic rectangle, but you can buy other shapes, like stars, circles, hearts, hexagons, etc.)

Once the pattern is complete, you put a sheet of parchment paper over the top, and iron it until the beads have melted together:

Tada! :D

You knit? That is so cool! I know how theoretically, but I'm not very good at the practical applications. |D

Oh! I have seen those things before. Those are cool.

I just learned how to knit last year! I'd been wanting to learn forever but I always need someone to show me how to do it in person--videos just don't cut it for some reason. So a lady at work sat down and showed me and I got it in like five minutes. I like it, it's relaxing and helps me clear out my brainmeats XD

Blow bubbles, watch The Office, talk to my best friend on the phone or go hang out with him if we can find time to do so, watch a movie that will make me cry or make me smile, read smutty fanfics/watch porn, eat a piece of pot brownie, or go out for a drive and blast out songs I love singing along to. Depends on how much cheering up is needed.

Oh and I also love going out to buy makeup. Or just really shop in general. But it's more major shopping for random shit at Target or Wal-Mart instead of going to the mall like I did when I was a teen/in my early 20s.

Buying video games and playing them. Sometimes just the buying is enough.

Also, nail art. Giving myself a manicure and using some nail stamps. And just looking at nail art blogs.

I need to grow out my nails properly so I can do nail art. ;_;

Do you have any blogs you'd recommend?

Re: Things you do to cheer yourself up

I actually keep my nails fairly short because when they're long it's annoying to type with. So, most of the stuff I look at is for short nails.

I think these have really good and pretty easy tutorials. :)
