Allergies

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Today I learned that I have a nut allergy! It was triggered by walnuts, but the doctor said unless I have a long history of eating the nut and being fine, I should avoid it. No new nuts for me!

This leaves me with... Peanuts. Which is good because I love peanuts but I was starting healthy foods and really loved walnuts.

I'm also allergic to horses and pollen.

What are you allergic to , F!S?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
*points to header* that was supposed to go in the main post but the medicine has kicked in and I am tired.

did you also attempt to eat a horse? and pollen?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
You know, that would be funny if it wasn't the same joke people made every time I brought it up. (Although, yes, I AM curious as to whether or not I can eat horse meat.)

No, I just swell up while my throat closes if I get within reaching distance.

My allergies are mostly seasonal and nonfood -- ragweed, dustmites and the like. I think I also have a walnut sensitivity: Unpleasant but not really bad enough to be called an allergy. Fortunately, I don't really like walnuts, so. However, the day I develop any sort of peanut or almond allergy will be a sad, sad day.

I also can't take ibuprofen. It gives me headaches, and I have no idea what that's about.

I think I'm probably allergic to cucumbers and pickles. Anyway, I have some kind of strange reaction to the taste--even if I get a strong whiff of the smell I start gagging.

I really have no idea why.

Mangoes, which is a shame because they're really good.

I'm allergic to cats and certain long haired dogs. I don't really care about the cats thing because I've never really been a cat person. But the dogs allergy makes me sad sometimes. I couldn't have a big lab without being miserable the entire time. :(

Oh jeez, let's see. The RAST test came back with grass pollen, cats (I'm not getting rid of them :| ), and especially dust mite. I've also observed allergies to *deep breath* lanolin, some cleaning products (we use hypoallergenic ones which have the bonus of being eco-friendly and not tested on animals :D ), some perfumes and spray deodorants (yay, anaphylaxis!), insect bites (they get horribly swollen), mould, and they're not actual allergies, but I'm lactose intolerant (not an issue, I'm vegan!) and overly sensitive to capsaicin.

And I have asthma and some of those allergies cross over as asthma triggers, especially perfume and spray deodorants.

Winning at life, clearly \o/

At age 23 I've developed an allergy to Chapstick.
Chapstick!
But there's something else too because my lip is still occasionally reacting to something. I currently suspect tomatoes.

Carrots, peanuts, lima beans, plums. None of them are bad enough to do more than irritate me, but life is easier when I avoid them. Plums are the most extreme. If I eat more than two within 24 hours, I'll start itching and get this rash.

I really regret the peanuts and plums. Why couldn't I be allergic to something nasty, like cauliflower or broccoli?? NOOOOO. It had to be tasty peanuts and wonderful, sticky plums. *sulk*

None that I've discovered yet, which I only mention because of how odd it is. Everyone else is my family is allergic to various foods, plants, insects, chemicals, medicines, and animals, but me? I'm not allergic to a damn thing that I've ever encountered.

I'm luckily not allergic to any type of food (that I know of, anyway) but I have a bunch of other allergies to make up for it. I'm allergic to most of the common outdoor stuff, ragweed, pollen, some flowers, etc. Animal-wise, I know I'm allergic to horses, cats and dogs (my dog is a hypoallergenic breed so I thankfully have no problems with him, my last dog I couldn't pet without having to wash my hands immediately after or else I'd start sniffling and sneezing all over the place). I seem to have at least mild allergies to a lot of detergent -- I have to use the scentless 'made for sensitive skin' type or I start getting itchy. Also I'm allergic to cold and have been known to get hives in the frozen food section of the grocery store.

ASA (Aspirin) and foods with similar compounds (but only mildly. I can eat citrus and tomatoes, but not in large quantities and not in combination with each other).

Cats, but only when I've been away from them for a while.

Various types of pollen (but ragweed is a big one for me), dust, some molds and cat dander.

Tide, Nickel based jewelery and Mane and Tail shampoo gives me hives. My face breaks out if I eat citrus every day. Two or three times a week is okay, and Aspirin can kill me.

Guinea pigs and weeds. I get this horrible rash anywhere I touch the rodents, and I can't be in a house that has them for more than an hour. And only if they've all been moved out of the main living area and vacuumed within an hour of coming over (my Girl Scout leader bred guinea pigs).

I've also become allergic to plant sex since I moved away from my sun. It's kind sad, but I love it here so much...!

Re: Allergies

Kiwifruit makes my mouth sore and itchy; pollen and, much more strongly, something in the air during fall make my allergies go nuts; and lavender oil and the dyes used in soaps give me contact dermatitis. I've got some kind of a trifecta of different types of allergies going on.

When I eat avocados (as they are or in guacamole) my throat feels like it wants to close up and it's very uncomfortable to swallow. I've read up on it everywhere but it's the only food item that does this to me. Not bananas or other possible related foods.

It might not be a food 'allergy' per se but some sort of oral syndrome thing. An allergic reaction to a specific pollen. But even then, it's still only avocados! Which is a shame because they are so tasty!

I have a skin condition where I flare up in hives from excess body heat. So you could say I'm allergic to my own sweat. Thankfully it comes and goes and only flares up for a while every ten years-even then it lasts about...idk six months.

like it literally flares up EXACTLY 10 years later, always. Kinda freaky.

I NEED to actually get this checked out, but I seem to have developed an allergy to the adhesive on bandages. I thought it was a latex allergy, but..I have no issues with CERTAIN latex items and the last few bandages I've used have been fabric ones. So...it's got to be the adhesive. I get a rectangle shape all around the area of the pad. The pad area stays clear.
