Doesn't the TARDIS have a protective... bubble, aura, whatever you want to call it? I mean more than once we've seen companions/etc just outside the TARDIS in space etc and perfectly fine.

That's why I assumed Jack/the hand/his clothes were fine while he was clinging to the TARDIS, he was still inside that sphere of protection.

I'm going to vote on this because if Jack had actually died outside the TARDIS, wouldn't he have fallen off and been lost?

He just has amazing holding on abilities...

But he attached to her while the TARDIS was travelling in the Vortex. None of the other companions were outside the TARDIS while it was in the Vortex.
