Yeah, I don't think he has mental illness per se. But I still see him as a depressed, impulsive, disenchanted and utterly confused teenager. It's not really a book about "mental illness" but that doesn't mean Holden doesn't have problems rooted in his head. They aren't necessarily abnormal for a teenager, but still.
