Also, if he was sexist and short minded he wouldn't have so many interesting female characters. It would be a sausage fest with maybe a woman or two in the background because the men need someone to save and/or have a love interest.

A thing I dislike in fiction is authors attempting to be progressive by creating 'strong' women who are perfect and kickass and can do no wrong. Ugh, so patronizing. In asoiaf the female characters are flawed, fallible and they fuck up just as badly as the men. I like that.
