Oh, please. The way Nick handles ATLA has been messed up all the way back to Book 2, when Lake Laogai premiered on nick.com a week before it was due to air on the actual channel.

And that doesn't even compare to Book 3, that aired its first four episodes alright, then had episodes 5-9 air in Canada or Britain first, and then had episodes 10 & 11 leaked online, and then had episodes 12 & 13 air in Britain or Canada first, and then had episodes 14 & 15 come out ON DVD FIRST, and then had the entire finale spoiled three months earlier by a 20 page children's picture book.

Haahaaha oh wow that sounds like a marvelous fuck up! I never paid attention to the fandom, or the show's news, until a few years after the finale, so I kinda wish I was around around to see the disgruntling.

Same.

I didn't watch the first show until November 2011, seeing how much I missed makes me sad

Don't worry. That mess paled in comparison to the ship wars.

Aw, but that's a whole different kind of wank! (and one that I can still watch as it's even still ongoing)
Executive choices resulting in self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the foot is a particular sort of sad and grouchy wank.

It was kind of awesome because the majority of us just took the eps as they came, but also sad because we essentially never got a single "initial air date" for people to chat about real time. And yeah, it sucked for the people who really wanted to wait until Nick officially aired thing.

Especially for stuff like The Western Air Temple, which leaked in mid-December and still hadn't "officially" aired until mid-July.

Overall things were too bad though until the picture book leaked. Most of fandom was fine watching eps whenever, because they were still eps. But the book was essentially a plot summary with none of the fun or excitement of an actual episode.

A large number of us actually migrated over to a new community atla unspoiled, and then stayed in that little bubble-wrapped spoiler free zone for three months and avoided the rest of the fandom as a whole. Come to think of it, I'm AMAZED that we didn't any trolls. As much as people go on about how TERRIBLE the Avatar fandom was back then, it was a pretty considerate and nice group.

I rather miss it.

Is this the same book that hinted Zutara? I wasn't involved but I still remember hearing some outrage.

I have no idea. I was so upset at having quarantined myself for three months only for the whole series to resolve itself with lionturtles and spirit-bending that I took a one year leave from the fandom. Threw myself into Doctor Who instead.

Don't forget the insane wait for the beginning of season 3, despite it being ready. To compare, season 1 ended in December 2005, and season 2 premiered on March 2006. That's reasonable. Season 2 ends December 2006-- season 3 premiers late September 2007.

Well, to be fair that was a conscious choice on the part of the studio, whereas the other things were all plain fuck ups.
