Are we talking about the same Jaime who threatened to trebuchet a newborn baby over a castle wall in AFFC? Yeah, totally trying to become a better person. I always threaten to trebuchet babies around when I want to better myself.

While that was somewhat questionable, he didn't actually do it. Also, by threatening it, he ended a siege and spared a lot of lives, so...

Don't tell the tumblr girls that. A large amount of them seem to lack basic reading comprehension skills, so they're unable to understand that by making his threat, Jaime saved everyone from another bloody battle.

Even if he had killed the kid - which he didn't - explain how that would have been worse than killing hundreds of soldiers in a battle or siege.

lol get your head out of your ass. That was just a threat.

...also, is this the only thing you tumblr girls have to come back to every time this argument is brought up?

You do know that grrm himself confirmed that what he was attempting with Jaime was in fact a redemption arc?

Some people's ability to willfully ignore large parts of the text never ceases to amaze me.

Attempting a redemption arc and convincing your audience that the character has been redeemed (or is even redeemable) are two very different things.

Not thinking a character's come anywhere close to making up for their sins, and believing they're still a fundamentally horrible person does not actually signify a lack of reading comprehension.

Not necessarily, but you're refering to personal interpretation, not authorial intent. It doesn't hold the same weight.

And ordered to have Edmure and Jeyne Westerling killed in case anything happened to their convoy, in spite of swearing never to fight against the Tullys and Starks again.

Another threat, and one that he knew would work. He's not naive like Eddard Stark was; Jaime knows that he needs to make such threats in order to help avoid further bloodshed.
