Just started watching No.6 and I'm pretty into it so far!

I really liked that one. I've watched it through twice so far, which is rare for me.

Batman and Superman. Specifically Batman/Superman.

Just got into Starsky and Hutch a couple weeks ago and it is everything my soul ever wanted but was afraid to ask for <3

I'm also starting to get the distinct impression that the show is directly responsible for half the multifandom hurt/comfort tropes currently in existence.

I've been wanting to get into S&H for a while, but I've been told that the last eps aren't very good, and that'd be a huge damper for me. You know anything about it?

Re: Any new fandoms?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-26 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but hmmmm. Yes, the last season is not very good, but it still has some great episodes, and no it will not be a huge damper. Because with just a little bit of creative reading-between-the-lines, the last season can very easily be construed as an extremely understandable and believable rough patch, and the last five episodes are an absolutely brilliant and perfect arc, among the best episodes in the whole show, that totally resolves and fixes everything "dampening" about the first 3/4 of the last season, and makes it completely clear that the rough patch is temporary.

The lousiness of the last season was in large part, I believe, the result of moral guardians whining about how it was too graphically violent and the main characters' relationship was too 'close' for straight men, AFAIK, so they made the characters act more standoffish and made the plots more fluffy.

Oh. *goes to download the first episodes* Thank you, nonnie.

It would probably still be a dealbreaker if the show had an overarching plot, but AFAIU it more or less consists of standalone arcs. So I suppose that if I was fine with the SH canon, I'll be fine with this, too. And then there's the fRIENDSHIP 9_9

Re: Any new fandoms?

Standalone episodes and two-parters, really. The only real arc is that last one.

Though I should probably clarify: that five-episode arc I mentioned is really a three-parter, then one standalone breather episode, and then the series finale that's directly related to the three-parter. This would be totally fine except the breather episode is by far the most controversial episode in the show. (I love it, but it's about them having a big fight, so obviously a lot of fans hate it.)

OP of thread:

Late to this party, but I'm glad to hear this! I also heard that the fourth season was not so good but I figured I could deal with it because I've had so much experience with loving shows that went downhill later. I'm happy to hear that it ends well. I've been skipping around a lot, but haven't seen anything from the fourth season yet.

I'm about halfway through season 3 and I'm going to finish it once I finish The A-Team. I love Starsky and Hutch!

S&H, Man From UNCLE, and The Sentinel as a late-but-great joiner. I reckon between them, those three have old-school h/c more or less covered.

You forgot TOS.

Don't forget Star Trek TOS! Although that's mostly a font of sci-fi/fantasy flavored hurt/comfort.

I've gotten really into Call the Midwife over the past couple weeks, but I don't know if it has a fandom or anything.

This show is great, also started a few weeks ago. I think I'm going to read the books.

The A-Team

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2014-07-26 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Back watching the show again, after a year. I'm just now finishing up season 3. There's not much of a fandom for it, though.

It's a great show innit? I powered through it a couple of years ago after the movie sucked me into the whole A-Team thing and I've still got the episodes on my PS3 for when I want to watch something light and fluffy to cheer me up(the show does have it's more serious moments ofc but for the most part it's pretty upbeat).

But yeah the fandom is barely-there.

That secret about the writer going 'no homo' made me give Samurai Flamenco a shot. I watched the entire series in about two days. It was...interesting, and I fucking loved it. Not sure I could even tell you what it was about because it seemed to reinvent itself every couple of episodes, but holy shit was it a wild ride. I learned to embrace the crazy and enjoyed myself immensely. Masayoshi Hazama is too precious for this world. (Thank you secret maker!)

I'm watching Free! Eternal Summer, Shounen Hollywood, Bakumatsu Rock (another really bizarre anime that I can't get enough of) and Dramatical Murder. (NGL, right now I'm not too into the Dramatical Murder anime, but I'm easy and will continue watching at least for now to see if any of the relationships become canon. Will probably watch playthroughs of the game later, since it's supposed to be much better.)

Oh, and I'm almost finished with the first season of Orange is the New Black. Didn't expect to like it this much either.

Hannibal. Literally just watched this show last week.

Baby Daddy. I live it for so many reasons, not the least of which being that the lead character's brother is a rich man's Chris Pratt pro hockey player who's been nursing a crush on the lead girl even when she was in high school and known alternately as Fat Pants and Rigantor.

I mean, it's not perfect, but it is great.

Maybe not a new fandom per se, but I've recently become obsessed with WindRose (explorewindrose.com). I thought I was done with pet sites, but noooo, apparently not.

I just started on Radiant Historia after a friend informed me that the fandom for the game is pretty much like the kind of fandom I miss - the few who are actually in the fandom spend their time discussing meta and such regarding the alternate timelines the game creates and whatnot.

I said shortly after starting that this game is like Virtue's Last Reward knocked up Suikoden 2, and Final Fantasy IV and Vagrant Story are the godparents. I can see myself really, really getting into this...
