Re: How do your beliefs line up with your parents?

My mom is a young earth creationist who thinks dinosaur bones were left around earth by the devil to fool people into not believing in God. Also gay people are unnatural, animals don't have souls, everything happens for a reason, we are all God's children, any God that is not the Christian God is wrong and immoral and a sin, and would not ever volunteer to help the elderly at a Buddhist temple or anything because that's enabling their wrong and bad beliefs. Politically she has no idea what actually is going on, ever.

(ETA: Oh, yeah, she spends at least an hour every day just copying verses of the Bible into notebooks. Like just re-writing what's right in the book. To help her remember it or something ??? she has 10+ notebooks like this full of copied Bible passages)

My dad doesn't give a shit! His parents were Shinto Buddhist though, so my mom was expected to help the family with stuff for the food for offerings (ETA: and funerals? Or something) and there was much whining forever about bad and wrong and false Gods about that. After they both died (and mom's half of the family pressured grandma into converting to Christianity right before death) she's been trying to convert him to Christianity and reminding him that he's going to Hell and stuff. He continues on not giving a shit, though he does like meditation and stuff. He believes politics is bullshit and people are generally assholes and stupid, crying babies.

I have no religious affiliation and believe everyone should worry less about dictating how other people live their lives (provided it's not hurting people) and focus more on being excellent to each other.

So yeah, we don't match at all. We're all generally happy people though! And we get along! We just don't talk much.
