I don't think it has anything to do with misogyny (although I always get a laugh at people referring to those eras as being more civilized), but I do feel like a couple of years ago there was this big cultural thing on the internet to be a 'gentleman'. Like, a lot of guys would act the part by calling everyone 'good sir' and saying 'you are a gentleman and a scholar' and the fedora was part of that. It still sort of persists, but I think that's why it exists. Is to add class with little effort.
