It's worth sticking with, IMO. Midway through year two it just suddenly hit the AWESOME button and they've been punching that thing into the console ever since. If you want a fast re-entry, read through the summaries of the first half of year two, then start with the storyline about the first avatar. You'll miss some good stuff, but it's still rocky until that point.

You've missed out. Midway through year two the awesome switch got turned on and it's been on since. Go find the episodes where they tell the story of the very first avatar, that's when they really got their feet under them.
