I hate this film because it's got terrible pacing, I loathe musicals, it goes out of its way to be edgy and it's got THAT particular man dressed in rather less than I ever wanted to see him dressed in.

Better?

it goes out of its way to be edgy

well it was made in the 70s

For real, the pacing is kind of terrible. I enjoyed the beginning, but it starts to drag really quickly and by the time it gets to the end I no longer care.

I love musicals, but I dislike it for the same other reasons as you.

It also completely changes plots half-way through the movie.

Yeah, weak pace, plot doesn't make sense, it doesn't really stand on its own without the full audience participation experience. About half the jokes fall short due to weak direction/performance timing. Even O'Brien and Curry admit that most of the audience was entirely unplanned because the movie was edited poorly.

Still, as bad musicals go, it was a cultural phenomena for many of us who came out in the 80s or 90s.
