I don't read WIPs because I hate cliffhangers and because WIP is commonly synonymous with "abandoned fic."

I have a rule of thumb: If a WIP was not updated in the last 6 months, don't trust that it will be updated any time soon.

If the last update is anything up to one month, you can hope they are continuing.
