This. I think doing something you don't enjoy for the sake of feedback/making others happy is a really bad practice, emotions-wise.

And also the writing tends to be crappy, so.

But why do you assume it's the only reason? It's not an either/or kind of thing, you can enjoy writing and still want feedback to keep posting. No one said they actually hate writing and do it ONLY for the feedback; as far as I've seen that's just what the people going after OP have claimed. OP could have the whole fic writing out already and only post the installments after x reviews, for all that we know.

And personally, while I hate people publically hold fic ransom because it smacks of desperation, I have no problem at all with OPs attitude. It's their fic, they decide whether or not they want to post it. And if they feel they didn't get enough feedback to warrant the trouble*, that's their decision.

* I decided against posting a fic of mine to FFN because it was for an unpopular pairing in an obscure fandom and I knew that both feedback and readership would probably be basically non-existing, and given the hoops you have to jump through to post to FFN I just decided that it wasn't worth it. Is that "bad-practice, emotions-wise"?

Ah, no. I'm sorry, anon, I jumped to assumptions. If the OP posts the chapters that are already written, it's a completely different matter, and I've no issue with them.

To be fair, I have no clue if OP does that. It sounded that way to me, but that could be a knee-jerk reaction to the people in this thread assuming the worst about OP and attacking them for it. As though waiting a bit before posting a chapter is the Worst. Thing. EVER!!!11! and OP is a bad person and needs to re-evaluate their life to figure out why they are such a terrible attention-seeker.

It's just fic.

I don't have anything against you decision even if I don't agree (I think that in small fandoms/with unpopular pairings posting and waiting is worth, because sooner or later someone may find it and will be extremely happy), but... posting something in FFN takes even less time (and less typing) than in AO3 and uploading a new chapter takes only 2 clicks more?

Oh, the fic is posted online, just not on FFN. As I said somewhere else, I post because I love finding fic with that pairing I like and focusing on that theme I want to read about, so I post my fic on the off-chance that someone whose buttons it will push will find it.

We have very different experiences posting fic to FFN, it seems. Have they done away with the silly "upload a document so you can THEN upload it as a new story" thing? It used to take me ages to have a fic or chapter uploaded, most of them spent trying to correct the formatting that FFN would invariably screw up. Even when the most fancy formatting was a word in italics, FFN would still manage to fuck everything up in such a way that it took ages and a shit-ton of frustration to fix everything. Of course, the formatting gets screwed with some new update, anyway, but at least at the moment when I post I want my fic to look nice.

Or at least be readable.
